Stereotype to stigma

This was a small blurb I wrote a couple of years back when I was going through a bit of change from family man  to single dad hope you enjoy it

Stereotype to Stigma

The journey from family man to single dad

Definitions

Stereotype:a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

Stigma: a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.

The Stereotype:

Since the evolution of time man has often been seen as the hunter, gatherer, provider and protector for their families and over centuries the role has never changed

just the way in which it’s done,  but in that time it has gone from being a role to a stereotype which has been adopted by society that the man of the house will provide

and protect and lead by example, we’ve gone from going on hunting journeys to the modern day of working long hours, days, weeks or months away from our loved ones just to provide the best

Quality of life, we often suffer stresses that we never bring to the surface we keep putting on a strong front because the stereotype has given us this mindset of no failure no fear

So what happens when the system collapses? the relationship ceases? whats happened to that stereotype? We try to fight to keep things afloat but it seems like a losing battle.

STIGMA

Our relationship has broken down, family life has disappeared and life is not what it seems, we start blaming ourselves  for everything as that stereotype that has defined us has now abandoned us and left  us in no-mans land, we want the best for our children but we don’t know how to do it we often end up in endless fights and emotional spirals but still we want to be strong  and proud so we still keep this facade up when deep down inside we are wanting helping but we fear admitting we do because of fear of judgement from society due to the stereotype society that  has defined us with we are now left with the stigma of fear from judgement, I myself and males everywhere hold pride and strength in who we are and what we do but there is a time when all this needs to be put aside and stepping forward and not fearing judgement to admit yes you may have failed but also yes you want some help that it is there is more strength in admittance rather than pride.
